Skiler is a sage, noble, warrior king of the polar bear clan. He won his crown in paw to paw combat to the death. He is a take no prisoners leader. When his reign is over, he will be given the option to go out into the glacier and disappear or die in battle with his challenger. The giant snow bears of the glacier have a complicated social structure, they live isolated along the edge of the ice, fiercely protecting their fishing and hunting grounds. The Arora Borealis has special meaning to them. Their Gods are the Gods of snow, wind, and ice. They are a superstitious people, and keep sacred burial grounds which they feel are haunted by their ancestors. The ice bears have coming of age cerimonies where their songs, grunts, and the crashing sounds of their toothed whale clubs can be heard for many miles. All members of the clan respect the power and strength of their wise leader Skiler, otherwise they would rip him to pieces.
